Professional Experience
Dr. Patel is an associate with the Healthcare practice in the San Francisco office. His clients include nonprofit and for-profit entities such as healthcare systems, medical foundations, hospitals, medical groups, medical device companies, international NGOs, and other providers of healthcare products and services.
Dr. Patel has extensive experience assisting clients in acquiring medical practices, hospitals, and other healthcare entities, establishing medical practices, license-exempt foundations, and medical joint ventures, and obtaining financing through tax-exempt bond issues, private placement, and lines of credit. He also advises clients on federal and state self-referral and anti kickback laws, professional and technical service contracting, payor contracting, anti-trust issues in healthcare contracting, and privacy-related issues.
Dr. Patel has worked with scientific consultants to design lab experiments used to support clients in regulatory proceedings, and he frequently advises clients in negotiating complex professional service arrangements. Dr. Patel is a board certified pediatrician and also serves as the general counsel and director for Interplast, Inc., an international medical charity.
Prior to joining Manatt, Dr. Patel was an associate in the healthcare group of an international law firm.
