LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2007 – Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, the national law and consulting firm, is pleased to announce that Wendy Krasner and Susan Ingargiola have coauthored a chapter in the 2007 edition of the Health Law Handbook (ISBN: 978-0-314-96454-0). The Health Law Handbook is part of the Health Law Series published by Thompson/West.
The Health Law Handbook provides insights and knowledge from national health law experts on a variety of current issues, including: the new Medicare Part A and Part B appeals process; alternative dispute resolution in healthcare; quality issues relating to managed care, encouraging provider quality, and long-term care; de-identifying health information to comply with HIPAA; and emerging issues under the Medicare Part D prescription benefit.
Ms. Krasner and Ms. Ingargiola’s chapter in the Health Law Handbook is titled “Part D Formularies: The Ongoing Battleground between Access and Cost.” In it they outline the basic formulary requirements of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act (MMA) and discuss the role of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), formulary review, and other regulatory oversight of formularies. Ms. Krasner and Ms. Ingargiola also share their perspective on the future of formulary regulation.
At Manatt, Ms. Krasner parlays her extensive expertise in federal healthcare programs to assist clients in areas including Medicare coverage, pharmaceutical reimbursement, and Medicare and Medicaid managed care arrangements. In particular, she has a unique expertise with regard to the legal, regulatory and policy implications of the prescription drug benefit now offered under Medicare and how the new benefit interacts with the many other facets of our healthcare system. Ms. Krasner earned her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1978.
At Manatt Health Solutions, an interdisciplinary policy and business advisory division of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, Ms. Ingargiola provides strategic and regulatory advice, policy analysis and project support to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, healthcare providers and other healthcare clients on Medicare regulatory and reimbursement, health information technology and other issues.
